Physiotherapists from South Sydney Sports Medicine have a raft of experience in servicing sport teams. Servicing predominantly Rugby League teams.
Liz Steet is the current physio and has been treating the rugby league NSW State of Origin team for the past 32 years. This being arguably the number one sporting event in the country. Liz then transitioned to Origin through the City vs Country annual rugby league game. Liz was the physio for the country team for several years. Mark Beaven, the other practice partner, was the physio for the city team for several years during this same period.
Of course these representative fixtures did not just appear. Liz Steet and Mark Beaven originally started as the physiotherapists for South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team way back in 1989. Thereafter Mark continued in this role up until 2004. Liz Steet switched camps to become the Sydney City Roosters rugby league physiotherapist up until 2004.
From 2005 onwards – Sporting Team physiotherapy services were continued in varied codes of sport. Liz Steet predominantly spent time with the Australian Water Polo Team both here in Australia and overseas. Sometimes Liz teamed up with Dr Grace Bryant who has been the Australian Water Polo doctor for decades. Dr Bryant now works at our clinic.
Mark took on a role with the Australian Institute of Sport which involved a rugby league representative team for year 12 students who were not provinced in either Sydney or Melbourne. Mark had further roles with various nations, acting as team physiotherapist. These included the Fijians, Maori and Lebanese rugby league teams.
More locally the clinic has had roles as team physiotherapist for the Eastern Suburbs Roosters junior development teams. Philippe Oei has had this role over a few years. Philippe also had varying roles with sporting teams including rowing and much more.
Again, in the more local scene our most recent job has been as physiotherapist at Sydney Boys’ High School. This entailed a mere injury check-up type situation, rather than sideline services.
