Dr
Luke InmanDoctor Luke Inman is a former
professional rugby union player who is currently completing
his specialist training in sports medicine.
Inman is the team doctor for the Australian Rugby
Union Academy
Sydney Swans
Reserve Grade and Shore school rugby.
He practices as a sports doctor at the
South Sydney Sports Medicine Centre and the
North Sydney
Sports Medicine Centre, treating patients with a variety of
sports related injuries.
Inman also assists prominent
orthopaedic surgeons including Drs Mervyn Cross and Andrew
Wines at The Mater Hospital.
Inman has been a qualified doctor since
finishing his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery
degree at the
University
of Sydney
in 2006. He worked for three years at a range of public
hospitals in New South Wales
as an intern, resident and senior resident (predominately in
the emergency department and intensive care) before passing
his exams and interviews to be accepted on to the sports
medicine specialist training scheme through the
Australasian
College of Sports
Physicians.
He has covered a plethora of sports in
addition to Rugby Union and AFL such as Rugby League,
Tennis, Athletics and Muay-Thai kick boxing and is well
known for his practical, on field medical coverage.
Inman has a unique background. As a
rugby player he represented
Australia
in seven aside rugby in 21 tournaments around the world
between 1999 and 2008, and captained his country in six of
those competitions. A highlight for Inman was playing for
Australia in the Commonwealth Games in
Melbourne
in 2006.
As a full time professional player
between 2000 and 2002 Inman earned 20 caps for the NSW
Waratahs in the Super 12 and impressed as the Tahs Top Try
Scorer in the Super competition in 2001. He was rewarded
with selection in the
Australia
A side to play the British Lions in 2001 before making the
decision to follow his passion and study medicine full time.
Throughout Inman’s two degrees he was a
1st XV Player for Sydney University for ten seasons (over
100 first grade caps), winning the Premiership three times
as well as being awarded a prestigious University Blue and
representing Australian Universities 1st XV.
After completing school at Waverley College
in 1995 Inman completed a Bachelor Medical Science (Honours)
and represented Australia in the
Under 21’s rugby team in 1998.
